CAMJAM

CamJam 2015 - Cambridgeshire Scouts Jamboree

This August EDSFAT supplied all the equipment and most of the staff for the First aid and Medical Team at CAMJAM – all who attended had a fantastic time and it was really nice to work alongside some competent and caring individuals…. who it turned out were also game for a laugh and made the whole week rather good fun!

As far as numbers go we dealt with between 1% and 2% of the population per day which is exactly what we expected. Analysis of the individual presentations continues and as ever lessons are leaned to help us continue to improve and progress.

Thanks and well done to all involved.

Matt

Active8

Active8 tomorrow in Chatham Historic Dockyards! Come and have a go on STATMAN and practice your CPR skills and use training AED’s, a real AED to live shock STATMAN and get hands on life like practice. We will also have a large selection of our equipment to view and see what we can offer events, and first aid/Hi-Viz items for sale! See you there!

Reunion Success

Members of the Eastbourne District Scout First Aid Team (EDSFAT) Scout Active Support Unit were delighted with the interest shown in STATMAN, the portable SMART STAT patient simulator, during the Saturday activities in the Training Field at the Reunion.  A large number of participants took the opportunity to practice their CPR skills on the intelligent manikin that actually ‘Breathes’ and has a ‘Real Pulse’.  The force required to carry out effective CPR on the manikin is similar to that of a real person and people could practice how to use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) at the same time.

We were pleased to see new and old friends in the LIDD and hope that the purchases made will prove useful in your scouting roles.

Sundays workshops were again well attended and we received some very kind feedback. Hopefully we shall see you all next year!StatmanGilwell Reunion 2014

Getting Ready For GR2014

Well EDSFAT are busy getting ready for this years reunion! We will have our usual sales and tombola stand in the LID and a space on the training field. On the field this year you can have a go with different types of training models including our state of the art patient simulator Stat Man. If you really want to put your skills to the test we have designed some scenarios of varying difficulty to see how you may react to a genuine emergency. These will be over seen by two of EDSFAT’s experienced trainers. Ian Lewis has many years experience in providing first aid and organising first aid cover at events and is also a trainer for Ambulance Service Community Responders. Matt Jones is a Paramedic and Placement Educator for undergraduate Paramedic Students and trainer/assessor for other clinical grades within the Ambulance Service.

Sunday there will be two, one hour sessions on basic life support and automated external defibrillators. Places can be booked with the team on the Saturday.

Interested in joining our team? We cover events all over the UK, come and chat to us about the opportunities becoming a member can bring.

See you there!

February Training

Thanks for a successful training day on Sunday (23rd February 2014) A good turn out and a useful day. Kieran has kindly supplied his training notes and they are available to members by logging in and clicking on training resources in the “members only menu” on the right side of the website.

It was good to hear opinions on the new Operation Support Vehicle and I look forward to announcing it to the world with some lovely photos soon!

A Stormy Reflection

Disaster was averted in the morning after last weeks storm by some reflective barrier tape and a quick thinking member of EDSFAT.

With winds of over 90mph in places across the south coast many trees were uprooted, including this one on a lane close to a members house. The unlit bendy lane meant that motorists were having to break hard to avoid the tree so a length of EDSFAT reflective barrier tape was wrapped around the tree to make it visible from quite some distance away in the cars headlights.

The tree was later removed and the tape returned with thanks.

Emergency Aid 4

This weekend saw over 20 Explorer Scouts complete the requirements for Emergency Aid 4 as part of their Young Leader training. The Explorers Learned about common medical emergencies, bandaging and minor injures.

In addition to the set learning outcomes for the badge the explorers took part in a session to learn about Automated External Defibrillators as part of their resuscitation.
